Does anyone have the back story about a sort of hybrid alternator used in 72. 72 was the last year for the use of an external voltage regulator. I have a 61 amp alternator/external regulator set up that has the guts of a 10SI including the bridge rectifier and brush holder with the case of a 10DN having the square 2 pin connector. In place of the internal regulator there is a dummy piece. Was this used on certain cars or were they all like this in 72?

 

They were all like that in 1972. It was one year only.
