i have taken a couple from 3rd gen cam#ros u have to have a metal hood or run a ground up to it but it shuts off when the hood is closed and turns on when hood is open. if this helps.

under hood light

You could still get them over the counter at the dealership as recently as a couple years ago.
The numbers I have are 983173, 939035, 983386, 995558 and the most recent one, and the one you'll likely get is 22529281.
Good luck,
Randy

I know of no rebuild kits.
If you are thinking about aftermarket, then is seems that original look is not too important. If that is the case, the local boneyard is the place to go.
Look at all 70s to 90's GM cars - not just Olds. My '86 Cutlass uses a similar looking light as the 72. My Caddy has an enclosed plastic one that uses the merc switch, too.
Most yards will guarantee they work and they should be cheap.
The question is do you have the yards around and do you have the time...
