Here is my new Jamesbo Switch....

As horrible as Jamesbo's story is, some good has happened.

Like other's here I have installed a new Jamesbo Switch, also known as a battery cut-off / kill switch, in my car this weekend. It may not be the prettiest accessory, but I feel a lot more sercure. The fire exstinusher is still a must.

After seeing all of the mods done under my dash by the previous owner, me and the electrical shop that repaired my dash after an attemped stereo theft, I am surprised I have not smelt any burning.

Again sorry for your loss, but remember some of us have taken your experience to heart and are trying to prevent our own.

I put one of these in all my projects. If for no other reason, it allows me to keep the battery in while I'm working on the car. Just dont lose the removable key.

I got it at my local Advance Auto Parts store for about $20, which of course, you don't have in Burlington. (I lived on Hamilton Mountian, Ancaster, from 2001 to 2009:-) I am sure I have seen this blade type at Princess Auto. I don't know if you would find them at Canadian Tire or not. It is Wirthco and there were several choices. There are even more on the web site here:

http://www.wirthco.com/battery-disco...32_9-l-en.html

Amazon.com lists Wirthco products but amazon.ca does't. That's normal. Canada gets forgotten again.

Mine can be mounted right on the side post battery, but I chose to mount it on the fender. There was a factory hole already there so no drilling was needed. I had it on the battery for about a month while working on the rest of the car. It a little "soft" hanging off the battery. It is mounted through a hole in the plastic base between the terminals to an L-Bracket I made to bolt it to the factory hole. The switch does not privide a ground anywhere. It is on my Negative/ground side of the battery.

I bought a switch that Garys 68 has from a marine store in Windsor. I use it on my Bayliner.
