I have a 1984 Hurst Olds, and there’s one loose connector under the dash that isn’t hooked up to anything. It’s a two-pin female socket with two black/white wires on one pin and an orange/black wire on the other. I’ve checked the electrical service manual, but I just need some direction. Could this be for the cruise control?
The cruise control connections are in the upper left corner, highlighted below. The vacuum line on the brake switch is to dump vacuum from the cruise diaphragm the instant you tap the brake pedal. There is also an electrical connector for the cruise control on the brake switch to shut off the electronic portion of the cruise control.
The connector you are asking about might be for the key buzzer.
Pretty sure that goes to the nuetral safety switch. That’s an input to the exam that tells the computer the transmission is in park.
To prevent truth decay, the 1978-up A/G-body cars (as well as the 1977-90 RWD full size cars) do not have a neutral safety switch. They have a mechanical blocking mechanism in the column that physically prevents the key from being turned to the START position unless the shifter sleeve on the column is in Park or Neutral. The switch at the base of the column has backup lights and provides the Park/Neutral signal to the ECU. This signal is used to control idle speed. It has no connection to the starting circuit.
