Headlamp/radio issue

In daytime driving over rough roads my radio shuts off and at night headlamps shut off/flicker. I have installed new battery and positive and negative cables. Any ideas? Car is a 72 cutlass convertible

It could be a number of things, but I would probably start by looking for a grounding issue. That's a little newer than what I generally work on, but in principle should be similar. The engine is usually grounded by cable to the battery, then ground from engine to firewall, and or chassis. Under dash harness usually have multiple grounding points, as well. When looking, I usually try check for corrosion, and melted wire insulation from trying to pull current thru a poor ground.

A big thanks Jetstarjim, I looked up here the engine/firewall ground should be and lo and behold there wasn't one. I ent to my local parts store picked up a ground strap and a self tapping bolt for $ 10 and installed tonight. Results my stereo stays on, my headlights no longer flicker and my windshield wipers now work when I turn on the switch!! Thank you
