Yea, I considered your option. May or may not work. Dropping tank isn’t that bad of a project. Getting the fuel out is one of the biggest parts of it. Run it dry like I did, carry a gallon with you. Just enough to get you home. Then, the tank is just 10 pounds or so. I will encourage you to remove the tank, and check everything while in the area. Old rubber fuel and vent hoses likely need new ones.

If you do need to remove replace the sending unit, it will be difficult working through a hole in trunk. The locking rings on the sending units take something like a punch and hammer to turn them sometimes. Tough to do working through a hole.

well the fuel on mine is the easiest
my car has no stock set up
I have a electric fuel pump and the fuel line comes out of bottom of tank super easy to disconnect

I suspect all my vent lines are gone and I suspect that I have a bad ground wire as the fuel gauge is pegged at Max

Well decided to tackle this tonight

Sender wire connector on top of sending unit is bad. Not sure how that goes bad but

replaced it and now it works fine

A piece of carpet will do, but to be fair, duct tape will make future "work" a breeze . . .

Ahh, the guys are having a little fun with this. I get it. Not what I would have done. But it did work for you. Clean up the cut lines all four sides. Make a 20 gauge patch 1” bigger all the way around. A few Sheetmetal screws…..Silicone will be hard to take apart if you wanna get back in. Some butyl tape would work great.

Maybe you can clarify for me? I thought you said that the fuel line was on bottom of tank? Have you abandoned the fuel lines in your picture? Just using fuel level part of the Sender?
