Extreme Budget Stereo Install

Being as things are dog slow in my line of work (truck driver), I have had some spare time this week.

Unfortunately, this slow time has created a bit of a budgetary constraint in my life, but I wanted a working deck in my 66. This resulted in installing the stereo with things I already had lying around.

I had purchased a new deck for my big truck a while back and decided to put the old unit in the 66. I had speakers from a project for my daily driver that I never got around to, plus some plywood....

First rule, no cutting or drilling. Unfortunately, I couldn't get away with out drilling three holes. One for the deck mount, and two for my engine gauges.

The project isn't finished yet. I still need to make a rear support for the deck and I want to run an input wire out to the console so I can plug in my BlackBerry or iPod. I just have to figure out a nice hiding spot for it so it doesn't look stupid.

Take a look at the pics and let me know what you think.

Very low cost install, but not bad at all! Good job on the no-cutting rule.
I bet the rears would sound pretty good.

LONG ago when my sister wanted bigger speakers in the old Pinto, I just took some dry rotted 6x9s and tossed them up loosely in the back window dash and duct taped them down. It didnt sound worth a crap but we were just two poor teens then!

Shoot Rob,
When I was your age....
I used chewing gum to stick a tin soup can to the dash by the front speaker and lashed two to the rear deck with bailing wire.
I connected them with a a couple of pieces of old meat wrapper string from the butcher, instant stereo rear speakers.

Wish I'd thought of that. I could have saved myself some time.
