Engine will not start

I'am rewirering my oldsmobile 88 delta 1969.
I have tried to start the olds, the engine wil not start becouse the sparkplugs don't fire.
Everything els seems to work as should.
What is the normal procedure to start a olds? ( in neutral and feet on the brake's?)
Ore should i recalibrate the distributor ( the coil works )

And is there a better working distributor (magnetic or computer controled)
like edelbrock parts? GM/ shevy tuningparts is easely found in the netherlands

I start my 55 with "N" and foot on brake, some things to look for is if the wires is shorted on the distributor, the point gap is correct, and If the coil burnt out Good luck finding your prob. Let me know if you have any luck.

mmm weird, if i set the autotrans. in N the car don't atempt to start.
Only the Amp meter and oil dashbordlight are burning.

I can only start if the gear is in Park, Still the amp meter is burning? battery is fully charged.

My problem i think is the distributor (rotor) any one pictures? or the wires are at wrong place. ( cant find nr1 on the distributor cap for corect firering order)
And the corect space between the point gap?

Using insulated pliers, hold a spark plug wire near the block and look for a spark while trying to start the engine.

If no spark at the spark plug wire, unplug the coil wire from the center of the distributor and hold it near the intake manifold and look for a spark while trying to start the engine.

If no spark at the coil wire, check the voltage on the small terminals on the coil when the points are closed and the key is on. One should be at ground and the other should be about 9.6 volts.

If everything above is OK, while trying to start the engine (key on start), check the voltage on the contact that had 9.6 volts. Should read 12 volts.

oopsy, My mistake, Park is what you start it in, the older hydramatics in the 50's didn't have a park selection. Did you have any luck finding your problem? If you still don't have any luck you could check the coil, and all of the little rubber gromits that keep stuff from shorting out (this is what happened to mine)

Keep me updated, Good luck finding your problem
