Determining Wire Gauge Size

Probably a stupid question, but is there an easy way to determine wire gauge size for any wire on the car for replacement purposes? Are the gauge sizes of the wires specified in the wiring diagrams in the CSM? I see the colors are. I'm dealing with a mostly stock 1970 Cutlass Supreme. Like, for instance, what is the wire gauge size for the positive battery auxilliary wire that goes to the horn relay and should have the fuseable link on it? I know the link should be two gauges smaller than that wire.

Thanks!

In my 1967 CSM wiring diagram there is a note that specifies "all wires are 18 AWG unless otherwise stated". I would expect that your 1970 CSM wiring diagram may have a similar note or in lieu of the note the wire gage would be noted somewhere along the run of any particular wire; you shall probably need a magnifier to see that clearly. Regarding the fusible link, they are sold as replacements for whatever the wire gage is that they are embedded in. Looking at the wiring diagram in my 1967 CSM and also looking at several of the wiring diagrams attached as "stickies" in this forum, the fusible link is not between the energizer and the horn relay but downstream from the horn relay!

Fusible links are at the voltage source of the feed wire that they are attached to and are 2 gauge sizes smaller than the wire they are there to protect. The wire referred to that has the fusible link is a 12ga and the link would be 16ga.
