I have had the car a couple of weeks and im ready to start to figure out the curse (only thing on the car that didn't work when I bought it). The light in the switch comes on when you turn the switch on. On the cruse unit there are two nipples one looks like it is for a vacuum line, not sure about the other:


If anyone has a wiring diagram or advice as to where I should start, it would be greatly appreciated!

 

Well one thing I can tell you for sure. That is not the transducer unit for a 71 Oldsmobile. Not even close. If it was original I could post the hook up from the Chassis service manual, but it wont match what you've got. Did the original owner tell you it was factory????

From inside the car, you would only see the cruise switch and the dash stalk

that looks like my 1970 transducer but I don't know if mine is correct either. I thought the one Allan posted was a 72 so clearly I'm confused

 

70-72 should all be the same, like the one I posted

 

Wow that is completely different, I do have the same switch and stalk:

I never got to meet the original owner when I bought the car because he was in the hospital but the car was very unmolested(except w-30 badge) and I assumed the cc was original.

the 70 has a rubber double bellows on the diaphragm (mounted on the manifold), I know that is different then the 71 -72. Also the 70 stalk is different as well the same from 66-70 and the same from 71-76.

I thought the transducer was the same for 70-71 and the rubber bellows was the same for 71-72

 

It looks like you need the servo bracket, servo, carb linkage, the two vac line T's and some hose if the rest is there.
The ground wire should go to one of the screws that that holds the horn relay/junction block, it won't ground the transducer very under a screw that goes into the plastic inner fender like it is now.
I suggest that you pick up a '71 Olds chassis service manual, it shows all the cruise control parts and has the repair diagnostics.

I think you're looking at the Toronado or big car cruise in the '71 service manual because that's the correct transducer for the A-body.
Section 15 - page 29 of the manual.



The '70 and '71 are the same, in '72 the A-body changed to the larger transducer.

Correct on the transducer and I'm pretty sure on the lever, the servo/bellows was the accordion-like deal in '70 and '71 and they switched to the flat pie pan looking one for '72.
