Convert alternater, 67 442
My car came already converted to HEI dist. While researching FAQ on 442.com I stumbled across the comment that when doing this conversion you MUST convert to electronic voltage regulater, either internal or replacement on firewall. In the past I have done several hei conversions and never ran into a reg problem but while my 442 was at painter's the module did fail. I was unable to find any reason to cause it (short) other than old age. Is it possible the mechnical regulater did cause it to fail?
Anyhow, since originality isn't important I want to convert to elect. regulater. What wireing changes are required to replace old alt. with a 63 amp with internal regulater? I want to stay with 3 wire type, not a 1 wire setup.
Thanks for any help,

If you don't want to cut your factory harness, you can buy a short jumper harness at NAPA that converts the plug for the external alternator to the internal. Also, at the voltage regulator end, you can simply insert jumpers like this:

OK, ready to convert to internal regulater. What year alt is recommended for most bang for buck. My car is non-ac and just needs stock power requirement. I will probably just get a re-built unit from AZ. Thanks
