A/c blower resister question - 72 cutlass convertible with a/c
So - many years ago a younger dumber me removed all the factory a/c stuff off my 72 convertible - I’ve been running since then with either high fan or off - today I pulled the resistor off the box and plugged it into the harness - it works - I now have all speeds on blower - but! Without the a/c box … how should I mount the switch? What did non a/c cars do? Also - I did a short test and noticed the coils get glowing red hot! Is this normal? Any advice?
A/c hosing blower resister

Trying it out. Not a great set up - coil glows red hot when in use (second speed from high)

i have the plastic a/c delete - drilling that and putting it in there a bad idea? I can live with out the lower blower speeds if it means not burning my car down

Thats a perfect idea, that’s exactly what the factory did. The resistor won’t last long without the airflow to keep it cool.

Glad that you remembered that plastic delete item, I have seen that before and in fact I think I fabricated one myself back in the seventies when I took out the A/C in my '71 Cutlass and did just what you recommended.
