Hi everyone,
Last year I bought a 75 D88 with 3500 original miles and the radio didn't work. I have bought two different 8 track radios from the era on ebay for quite a lot of money and been burnt both times so I'm wondering if these radios just haven't lasted the 45 years or if some were better than others? Also I was thinking of rewiring the speakers or getting a common ground adapter and using one of the radios from the early 80s instead. Any thoughts?
Olson, have you considered putting a modern radio in your Olds? I found a Sony radio at the junkyard for $30 and installed it in my 71 98 on the floor in an external box. Here's a pic of the old Kenwood radio that I swapped into my 96.
I've heard bad things about retro modern radios. There are plenty of threads on our site that cover them. Good luck.
I had thought of that, I have a NOS sears dashmate radio that's made to mount on the hump but I only ever listen to 8 tracks and with the car being such low milage I am trying to keep it as original as possible. If I cant find a era correct radio I may have to do that. thanks for the suggestion
You are probably one of a very few people in the US listening to 8 tracks. If that is your choice I would find somebody to rebuild one of the 8 track radios you have.
