Question Ballast Resistor for MSD coil

Hello all,

I decided to go with the Pertronix upgrade to my distributor. Apparently it works better with an upgraded coil. I happened to have a brand new MSD Blaster 2 coil in my garage.

My question is do I need a Ballast Resistor? I think there is supposed to be a resistor in the wire that goes to the current coil, will it be a problem adding the .8 Ohm resistor they suggest? I don't want to fry the new coil, and I don't currently have a the .8 Ohm resistor.

Anyone go through this already?

Thanks in advance,

Karl

I've done the Pertronix upgrade on my 65 Riviera and it worked fantastic. Noticeable increase in power. I bypassed the resistor wire completely using a relay. It was also a stock coil. I'm not sure what MSD is wanting here. I would call their hotline and see rather then risk ruining an expensive coil.

I called MSD and (as expected) they said the coil needs the .8 Ohm ballast resistor.

My question is what Ohm value is for the stock resistor wire in my harness. (If it is in the range of .8 to 1.2 Ohm it will work.)

Does anyone know the value of the stock resistor wire for the coil?

Thanks,

Karl
