back up light

I'm having problems with one of my back up lights. I have 12v all the way to the housing but not in the socket. Can this be repaired or is a new housing needed.
Any comments appreciated. Does anyone refurbish these? Would like to keep my Rallye all original.

So the wire has 12v right up to the edge of the light housing but not on the terminal inside? Is there corrosion?

have 12v to the positive terminal in the socket but nothing when the ground in the socket. I do get 12V from positive terminal in socket while grounded to the housing (or other parts of the car).
Hope you can make sense of this.Probably not worded the best.
thanks

You have a bad ground, probably need to clean the mounting area. To confirm run a jumper wire from the frame to the light housing.

Are you just putting this car together after restoring? The housing needs to have a good ground to the bumper and the bumper of the Rallye 350 needs an extra ground because of the paint between the bumper and the brackets. Also be sure that inside the socket is not corroded to get a good ground to the bulb.

I'm having problems with the ground in the socket (I believe). I get 12V reading (on a meter) when I touch the probe to the positive post in the socket and the negative probe to the housing.I get no reading when the negative probe touches the negative side of the socket. Could this still be a grounding issue as suggested by oldculass. Car is unrestored. The other backup light works OK. Inside of socket is clean. emoried the socket wall, wd 40 no corrosion appears to be evident

The problem your having is that the housing is not grounded to the bumper. You need the ground to complete the circuit for the lamp to light.

So if I clean the points where the light housing mounts to the bumper, do you think this will fix the problem.

Can't get much clearer than that. Make sure the housing has a good ground to the chassis either by cleaning the housing to the bumper or running an individual grounding wire from the housing to the chassis or bumper in this case.

Figured it out. The bulb socket was not tight to the housing. Took a socket and hammered the bulb socket ring to make better contact with the housing
Thank you everyone for your input and suggestions.
