Almost final electrical questions (transmission)

1970 Cutlass S originally 350/TH350, Q-Jet.

Can someone help me with the below? The original trans that came in the car doesn't seem to have any electrical connections, but this is in the wiring diagram in the 1970 CSM for the Abody.
I need to know the answer to the questions in the pic. Thanks!

That pigtail was incorporated into every harness, no matter which trans the car came with. While the TH350 uses a cable kickdown, the original trans for a 1970 will still have an electrical connector, which is used for the high gear pressure switch that triggers the transmission controlled spark system. That pigtail will plug into the trans, though only the green wire is used for the TCS switch.

Thanks Joe, where is that TCS solenoid located? And what does it actually control?

Also, the PO cut any connector that might have been at the end of those two wires. All I did was figure out what they were and now I don't know what to do with them...

TCS is an early emissions control system used on 1970-72 Oldsmobiles that disabled vacuum advance in all but high gear as a way to reduce NOx emissions. The solenoid valve that you see in the diagram simply shuts off vacuum to the distributor unless the trans is in high gear. Most people removed that system.

One last question from earlier. Where is this "trans switch" located? Looks like it is in the interior of the car somewhere evidenced by its location in the wiring diagram.

That is the TH400 kickdown switch on the accelerator. Your car will not have this and the connector will just be hanging from the dash harness.

I found the exact same unused connector in my 1971 CS convertible 350 cid w/ TH350.

The main reason I’m asking is I am going to use the green striped wire under the hood for power to the HEI by connecting the pink to the orange. The original ignition wire is a resistance wire for the old school coil and points ignition and I don’t want a voltage drop to the HEI due to that wire. And I’m fixing all the hacked up stuff under the hood (and soon, anything under the dash) so everything is dispositioned and fixed and won’t cause any issues in the future.

Yup. That's the one. You can ignore it.

1 6462514 1971-72 TH350

The 6462514 TCS switch has one terminal. From what I could determine, the 6462655 switch has two terminals. Is that correct?

If so, is the 1970 harness connection for the TCS switch different to accommodate the double terminals?

Or is the harness connection the same from 1970 to 1972? With the two terminal receivers set in a T format like in the below photo, one for the TH400 kick down and the other for the TCS?



The top photo is supposedly the replacement for the 1970 TH350 TCS, 6462655. The lower photo is supposedly the replacement for the 1971 & 1972 TH350 TCS, 6462514.

That switch with two terminals really only has a single terminal with two spade terminals on it. The harness has the two terminals in the "T" configuration and won't fit that switch. As usual the Borg Warner catalog is incorrect with respect to Oldsmobile applications. A real factory 6462655 only has one terminal

Thanks Joe for the information. I will use the link you provided to order a TCS switch.

Not sure why the parts book has two different part numbers for the 1970 and 1971/1972 model years, or if there is an operational difference in the switch itself.

There was a lone 6462655 TCS switch for sale, but it already sold. No others available. Will need to use an 6461514 TCS switch.

1 6462655 1970 ALL TH350
1 6462514 1971-72 TH350
