69 Cutlass Automatic Console Removal?

I'm preparing to carpet and need to remove the center console on my 1969 Cutlass. Is there a proper sequence of diss-assembly? Any tips are appreciated. I've found some perimeter screws and a few inside the lid but would like to go at this in the most logical manor if someone experienced can lend some insight. - Steven

Without looking at mine I'll try. Remove screws from bottom of console compartment and top plate then unscrew and remove metal trim from the sides, remove shifter ball and T handle and then lift top plate off. unhook harness and remove top half of console then bottom half should come out.

The T-Handle didn't have to come off and I didn't have to separate the console top and bottom. I gave it the old "community college" try and got it out undamaged. It's still going to be a bit of work to cut carpet around but is workable. (I did have to slip the black plastic slider out of it's channel in order to turn the top plate sideways, but it won't be a big trick putting it back together. Thanks for the reply, - Steven
