68 cutlass headlight switch replacement

Hello,

I bought a new headlight switch for my car today and installed it but heard a weird noise sounded like grease or something cooking not sure if I should be worried or if thats normal for new headlight switches as I noticed the old one had grease on the inside. It didn't fix the dash lights was hoping that was part of the issue. Thanks

John

Sounds like you have a bad short somewhere. There should be no noise from the switch. I would keep the battery disconnected anytime the car is sitting until you find and fix it.

I only hear it when I have the switch on as it sounds like grease cooking or could that be the wires? My old switch the grease looked like it had dried up. Also the interior lights on the dash are now working when they hadn't and the only thing I changed was the switch today. I still get the light saying my brights are on when they're not and gas gauge still acting up.
