67 442 rear Lights
Hi Everyone Happy New Year,I got a stupid Question on a 67 442 rear lower brake light works only when it feels like it ,I had the bumper off for paint. It back on the car now.
I tested the socket and my test light lite up on 1 contact thats the way it should be Right? anyway If I get under the car and wiggle it the light comes on ,There a boot that goes over the socket with the wires its hard
Do they make a Brake Housing like that or a socket, I looked in all the books I can't find the bottom piece, Someone said solder a drop in the socket do you do it on both contacts I think you would short it out if your not carefull
Am I right Im getting older and my marbles aren't all there.
Thank' Steve

I had a similar problem with my 67 442. Chances are the small insulator that separates the 2 contacts may be cracked like mine was or the wire not making good contact. The socket is pressed into the housing. On mine I cut the socket out and replaced it with an aftermarket push in socket and soldered the original plug/wires onto the new socket.

Or you just need to straighten the wire, lube the area where the contact slides, and make sure the springs are intact and everything moves freely. Some times the contacts on the bulb wear also, your might try a new bulb.

I had that issue and found the springs that are supposed to push the contact up were rusted and collapsed. I replaced the wires(contact end) and springs with a contact kit I bought thru Carquest. Glad you got it fixed. Just putting another idea out there for others.
