Cool The electrical fuse block 67 olds

Any idea why only my instl pnl fuse would not have power to it? All other fuses work with key on?? THere is no power to the fuse or to the back side of the block on both grey and green wires to that fuse. Where should I start looking for the problem? - should I start looking for a break in the wire or could I have a bad key switch??

I'd start looking at the wiring diagram in the Chassis Service Manual.

Do you have power from the headlight switch to the green wire?

If not, then you need to work back from there to find the fault.

Check the taillight fuse, on the later cars the instrument panel fuse is powered by the taillight fuse. No taillights=no dash lights. Don't know if the earlier cars are that way.

I/P and tail lamps are wired thru the headlight switch, so x3 on turn on the head or park lamps and make sure the dimmer on the h/l switch is turned full bright (counterclockwise).

What Glenn said. Power for the instrument panel lights comes from the TAIL LT fuse, into the rheostat in the headlight switch, out to the INST PNL fuse, then to the panel lights. If the **** is turned fully CCW and there still aren't any lights, then the rheostat is bad and you need a new headlight switch.

67 fuse block problem

Hey thanks for all the replies, got the panel lights to work for the INST fuse.

Lose wire at the electric block and yes the light switch has to be turn on and rotated in the on position to make sure it works.

What I don't have is Generator and oil light coming on at the dash panel now when you first try to start the car, any ideas??

The bulbs are good and so are the plug pins on the dash electrical board.

The warning light bulb test works thru a ground contact in the ignition switch. Also make sure you have a good clean ground path at the senders themselves- no teflon tape etc on the threads.

With ign switch ON, remove the wire from the temp and oil senders and ground the wire to a good clean ground point. Idjit lights should light. If they don't work then, it's in the ignition switch or the sender wiring. If they do, clean up the ground path on the senders.

I had a similar problem on mine solved it and it helped a few other C/O Members.
Upper right hand corner of the fuse panel had a broken wire inside .
Upper right hand Fuse Holder leading to the instrument panel.
I opened up the panel and there she was.
Once reattatched BINGO.
