For a 66 Toronado - does anyone know where I can find a wiring schematic that corresponds to this picture, that shows wire colors and connections? Also, where physically in the car is the a/c compressor relay and circuit breaker located? And what is that doohicky on the left that the circuit breaker is shown to be connected to?
Interestingly, that diagram you posted is reproduced twice in the '66 CSM:
Once as Fig. 1EA-7, on page 1EA-6, and then again as Fig. 1EA-19 on page 1EA-12.
The vacuum hose connection information is given in Fig. 1EA-6 on page 1EA-5.
I can find no wiring schematic for Toro A/C, but diagram 1B-83, for B-and C-bodies, on page 1B-46 should help a great deal.
Eric:
Thanks for the lead. This shows the blower switch to blower resistor connections, as well as the compressor connection. But it doesn't show an external relay/ circuit breaker, as the Toro diagrams do. Maybe the B/C cars didn't use it but the Toro did?
It also shows the wire to the blower motor as purple, which is as it is on my car. The Classic Car Wiring diagram shows the blower wire as orange, but maybe that is for a non-AC car.
Both the B/C car graphic and the Toro graphic show a two pin connector with three wires at the back of the control head, and two one-pin connections at the side of the control head. Does anyone know what these are, and what color wires they are? In the Toro section of the manual, under the description of the system operation, it states that in Normal and Recirc modes, a switch closes that energizes the compressor. This switch must be in the control head. Is this the master switch referred to on the B/C car schematic? The ClassicCarWiring.com shows a master switch for a non-A/C car; on the B/C Car schematic, this switch branches off to the blower switch as well as the compressor solenoid off switch. Does someone know if this is a separate switch from the control head and, if so, where it is located?
Finally, for you Toro owners... can anyone tell me where the external relay and circuit breaker are mounted in the car?
(I suppose I could try and trace the wires myself, but if someone knows it would save me time, effort, and back pain from scrunching under the I/P...)
On a '68-'70 Cutlass the A/C control has three switches. One activates the compressor relay and the second one puts power to the fan speed switch (two brown wires). The Cutlass high speed relay is mounted behind the brake booster on the firewall. Although different cars, usually the wire colours are the same. Blue wire at resistor block feeds fan speed back to high speed relay and onto the purple wire and back to the blower. When the high speed is activated, the brown wire from the control to the high speed relay is switched to the purple wire.
