62 Starfire clock removal

Hello All,

Fall is here and repairs are being lined up. When I had the dash down for vacuum line repair did not plan ahead and remove the clock at that time. Would love to remove the clock without dropping the dash again. Know that there's a better way but darn if I can figure it out yet. Any help would be deeply appreciated.
John

I believe there are 3 nuts holding the clock in? You need a 1/4" drive ratchet, a short extension and the right size socket (5/16" or 3/8"?). Then, you need a contortionist with small hands to get the tool on the fasteners. Best to do by feel, instead of sight.

Dave,
THanks, Yes you are correct. I have the shop manual which shows the schematic of the dash and the three mounting points. I have tried to feel the three nuts that retain the clock. And yes my hands are to big. I'm sure by feel I eventually could get them off with my 1/4 " drive set up. My concern is getting it back up! I'm thinking of dropping the radio out and working from the void above. What's your thoughts?

I was able to install the clock. In fact, I think the install went easier than the removal. That is not to say it was a piece of cake. I too have large hands. The biggest problem is trying to get into a position to see what is going on.

If the radio comes out easily, that may be a way to go. Another alternative might be removing the glove box for access?

Dave,
Thanks for your first hand experience and encouragement to proceed. I just might drop the dash and work from above. ( A job I have twice done on a 62 Olds ).

Your websites are very informative- Thank You for posting. My site hopefully is informative as well.
