62 88 wiper motor issues
Guys I'm going into uncharted territory. My wiper motor on the 62 88 is seized. Armature will not turn. Its getting power to it with key on-purple wire, just "clicks". So I pulled it, 2 of the 4 Phillips head fasteners stripped on me so I tacked on (welded) fasteners on top the Phillips heads and removed them. It's a real tight fit in there with welding! But it worked out. I have the shop manual, shows an exploded view of the 2 speed wiper I have. BUT I don't what I'm looking for Is there rebuild kits out there? This motor had to be used for certain years and in more than just an Olds. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hollander says that if it has a 4" cover and a 1-1/2" armature the part number is 4909107. It was also used on the 1959-62 Chevy pass. & dely., 1963-67 Corvette, 1959-60 Pontiac w/non-overlap blades, & 1961-62 Olds D88. If the only problem is that the armature has seized at its bearings (bushings) it may be able to be repaired with careful disassembly/reassembly without any replacement parts needed.

Well if it fits 63-67 Vette that makes it easy. Any Vette resto company will have rebuilt ones. Ecklers, Zip, Mid America etc. I personally started using Yogi Bair Corvette, great people great service. Ecklers is on my $hit list but they would have the part. Also lots of vendors that offer rebuild services, check in Hemmings.

Update, its similar in design and most likely the Corvette folks could restore it. Terrible picture but here is the wiper and a few more on my 63 Corvette and a few pictures of the 62. Also attached is the exploded view from the 62 shop manual. I think if I can free up the armature and I can fix this.

OZZIE-spot on! I got the case loose but will not come off yet. If you notice in the exploded picture: the thrust ball maybe stuck along with the felt washer, steel thrust plate and rubber thrust plate. I will see what I can do over the weekend and post the results.

11/7 update-gently removed the case with an oil filter pliers-came off very easy. After removing the armature it appears that the drive gear assembly is locked up-not the motor itself. Pictures 1-2 is the front and back of the drive gear assembly.

Guys, this thing is a mess. I have attached the exploded view from the 61 Service manual so you can follow along if you want too.. It looks like "seal cap" failed, it was cracked and just barely hanging on and it allowed water to leak down past the shield down the "drive shaft into the "drive gear" and those 2 parts seized together with rust. I will look into exchanging it I guess. Needs parts, the re builders have the sources for them....

Guys sent the wiper motor to Chicago Corvette. Ozzie, thanks for pointed out that this motor is the same as a C2 Corvette. $150.00 to rebuild it and 20.00 to ship it back. I will let you guys know how it goes. Once I get this reinstalled, I am going to get the car safety inspected and get tags for it. I'm going to sell this car and my 67 resto mod 455 67 442. At least tha'ts the plan.
