4 AMP Fuse

Where in the world can I get these short fuses? Seems "they" have either 3 or 5 for the fuse block.
Thanks everyone!

Look harder.

I think I had to go to several stores before finding the 4 amp'ers.

I don't see them at the Radio Shack website.

Do you know that Radio Shack actually sells these, or is this just a suggestion for where to look?

Here's what you need:

http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-EAGU60.../dp/B001I1GO1E

Count on Amazon to come through. Is there anything in the world they DON'T sell?

But I'll bet you can find them if you check enough auto parts stores. I'd probably hit a few before ordering online. You'd get them faster.

Looked at the site here they look like 60 amp. Guess I'll burn the phone up tomorrow. Why did Olds put a 4 amp in. Guess it was common in 71 The electronic 4 amp has a smaller base.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Well I've found out that AG stands for all glassAnyhow after searching tonight going to try RadioShack and HomeDepot? This fuse is 5/8" and guess that was a safe guard so you don't use a larger fuse. We'll see tomorrow! (.19x.78mm) good grief!

I recently had the same problem, tried Radio Shack and a number of local parts stores. Assuming you need the same fuse I did (4 amp SFE Series glass fuse), I found it in an assortment pack: Littelfuse SFE1ZP. There are 10 fuses in the pack and only one SFE-4, but there are also two SFE-20s which you should be able to use. $3.50 at the local O'Reilly's.

Geez, I would think most auto parts stores would carry SFE fuses. You can probably get away with a 5amp. The reason for the SFE's was they take up less space.

using a 5 amp won't hurt anything. just make sure you use the right blow rating for the circuit.

Was wondering about the 5 amp. More info for the mental file. I was suprised when I found out that AG just meant all glass Thanks Bill!

"AG Fuses
Originally stood for “all glass.” The automotive industry uses the “AG”
prefix (AGC, AGW) for most glass fuses. They vary in length, diameter
and amperage rating."

Bringing this thread back to life. Can't find the dang tiny 4-amp fuse anywhere and seem to blow it often. I can find 100 pack of variety sized AG fuses on ebay or amazon for under ten bucks but no 4 amps.

tiewraps.com has 10 for 6.95 with shipping its $14.90. With all the money we spend on these cars it doesn't seem like a big deal but why can I find 100 fuses for the same price as 10 4-amps.

This thread says 5 amp is ok as well. I'm guessing that would be ok. Anyone know for sure. I know back in the day if I only had a 25 it went in the 15 slot until I made it to the store. 1 amp difference should be fine, correct?

Yes a 5A would be fine. What are the dimensions of the fuse your looking for? Apparently the ones listed for a SFE4/32v vary between the midsize and short fuse.

I doubt you can find a 5A SFE fuse either. Keep in mind that the whole point of the SFE style fuses is that each size is a different length.

Google is your friend. Tractor Supply carries SFE fuses (I got mine there).

Waytek Wire sells a 20 pack of 4A SFE fuses for about $6.

Mouser sells them for $1.70 each, min quantity one.

Fastenal has five packs.

Pep Boys sells a five pack also.

Look at the pictures of the fuses Joe. Unless they are using pictures that don't represent actual sizes, they are different.

Read the text under the pictures, Eric.

"Images are for reference only
See Product Specifications"

There is only one specified size for a 4A SFE fuse.

SFE stands for Society of Fuse Engineers. The whole point of the series was that each fuse had a specific length so that you could not install a higher amperage fuse in a low amp circuit. Here's the list:
  • A 4 amp SFE 4 fuse is  5⁄8 inch long,
  • a 6 amp SFE 6 fuse is  3⁄4 inch long,
  • a 7.5 amp SFE 7.5 fuse is  7⁄8 inch long,
  • a 9 amp SFE 9 fuse is  7⁄8 inch long,
  • a 14 amp SFE 14 fuse is 1 1⁄16 inch long,
  • a 20 amp SFE 20 fuse is 1 1⁄4 inch long.
  • a 30 amp SFE 30 fuse is 1 7⁄16 inches long.
