1970 Cutlass Convertible Dash Lights
1970 Cutlass Convertible Dash Lights
I recently bought a 1970 Cutlass Supreme Convertible. A few of the dash lights and courtesy lights (the ones that shine above the wiper and heater controls) need replacing. I think I can get to the dash light by removing the bezel and gauges but can't, for the life of me, figure out how to get to the courtesy lights. When I remove the blue plastic panels, the lights appear to be behind a louvered metal plate. Anyone have a suggestion on how to best get at replacing these lights and does anyone have a schematic that shows the location and type of bulbs? I have an Assembly Manual and a Fisher Body Manual but neither are of much help.
You need a service manual. It shows the bulb type number there. You can look at it online at www.wildaboutcars.com but if you can pickup a hard copy that's preferred.
When you take out the left (fuel) and right(clock, blank, tac) gauges, you will see the sockets that hold the courtesy flood lights. A quarter twist and they come out. The bulb number is a 161.
Hope this helps!

I apologize for my ignorance here but I thought I had a service manual. Is it somehow different than the assembly manual or Fisher body manual? Are you referring to a Chilton's manual? I'm confused. Sorry. I'm new to the classic car world and just very, very frustrated.
No need to apologize. We were all new at some point (with the exception of a few guys here that I think were born Olds gurus). I am no expert by any means, but I read a lot of threads, and go out in the garage and work on my car too, so I have learned A LOT over the last couple months.
What I was referring too, is the oldsmobile chassis service manual. It's basically another bible for Olds guys. This along with the assembly manual, and the body by fisher manual, you can fix anything!
To get you started, sign up on the wild about cars web sight (its free) and search your year for the available manuals. Like I said though, nothing beats a good old fashion hard copy. The manuals online are photo copied so they are not exactly clear sometimes. You can still find hard copies online, but they will cost you a few bucks, $50 or more.

Thank you so much. I spent countless hours doing web searches. I found the chart that listed all the bulbs. I'll be shopping for a chasis service manual to go with the other two I have. Once again, thank you for taking the time to help me out!
