Trying to get new cables for my car.. They look pretty shitty..

Can someone confirm if the battery cable on a 1970 442 w 455 non w30 has a pigtail on it that connects to the horn relay? Also Does the negative have a pigtail with a ring loop? ( if yes where would this bolt to?)

If my alternator doesn't have a external regulator, would the wiring just omit the external regulator completely with its wiring and have just the sense and field on it with a positive cable?

‘70 442s are internally regulated. Yes, you need the battery pigtail to the horn relay.

Sorry. Missed the negative wire question. Still working on my first cup of coffee. The pigtail grounds on the core support if I remember correctly.

I see that my negative pigtail it bolted in the wrong place ( on the fender sil below hood) instead of the radiator core.. Even more of an issue that its broken off..
Would that affect interior lighting or is that main ground for the leadlamps etc?

 

There should also be a ground strap from the passenger head to the firewall. Difficult to say about dim interior lighting. Check voltages at the battery, horn relay, and bulbs. Grounds could be an issue but you’ll need to troubleshoot. Make sure all grounds have good clean contacts and that the “power” wires and any ground wires aren’t corroded. If dash lights are dim and the dome light is fine rotate the light switch rheostat a few times and see if that helps.
