1968 Ignition Switch Connector

I searched, didn't find a significant answer.

As you know, 1968 was a transition year. Federal mandate required a key minder buzzer, so the 1967 switch was redesigned two incorporate two additional terminals dedicated to the key minder circuit. In 1969, the feds required a steering lock and the ignition was completely redesigned and moved to the column. Unfortunately, this makes 1968 a one year only design.

My ignition connector must have overheated at some point because it has been replaced with the bare type 56 and a few PIDG terminals. The rest of my dash harness is in fairly good shape, so would prefer to fix this portion. My problem is that I cannot find a 3-prong, 1968 connector housing. Evidently, it is not reproduced even though it should be same as Chevelle.

What is the solution? Perhaps use a 1967 ignition and connector while disabling the key minder circuit?
What is used on aftermarket factory fit dash harnesses?

You might try calling Lectric Limited,i have their harnesses on my 67 Olds, and on my Vette.
American Auto Wire, i have not personally used them but have heard good things about them.
Perhaps they can tell you if the plugs are available.

Are you looking for the plastic piece that houses the wires and plugs into the back of the ignition switch? If so I probably have a few. I'm sure Scott Winn (oldspackrat) has a hundred of them too

Per your PM request. This is mounted kind of behind the Master Cylinder. I can't remember exactly where but I know it's just above that grommet that's shown in the drawing below

I sent you a PM also but I don’t have one that I can sell. Send Scott a PM. He’ll have one. Sorry about that.

Thanks, that is helpful. You know I saw that page in my book and didn’t realize what i was looking at. I think I have an extra 30 amp breaker that looks similar enough to use.

I did send Scott a PM. Hopefully he’ll have the elusive connector housing.
