1968 Cutlass S Fuel Gauge Wiring
Hello Y'all,
Ongoing with my project, I've now started to tackle my dash's electrical system. For starters, the previous owner decided to cut 80% of the gauge wiring. Since im realistically, only trying to have my dash light up, and display critical information(fuel amount), I would like some assistance on what my first step should be.
I know:
attached is a image of what is left after the guy cut it.
If anyone knows a good start, let me know.

I know:
- GEN (Generator/Charging System):
- Wire color: Usually a red or orange wire.
- BRAKE:
- Wire color: a green or yellow wire.
- FUEL:
- Wire color: typically purple
- OIL:
- Wire color: light blue or brown wire.
attached is a image of what is left after the guy cut it.
If anyone knows a good start, let me know.

Pink= ignition power feed from the gauges fuse
Brown=generator light, goes to the voltage regulator either on the firewall or the alternator itself.
green=temp gauge se give unit (or light, if the car has idiot lights the green wire splits at the firewall connector and also goes to the ignition switch)
Blue= oil light goes to sending unit or switch
gray= dash lights
tan= fuel gauge
I’d strongly suggest investing in a factory service manual. The wiring diagrams are worth the purchase price. Don’t buy a reprint, the wiring diagrams are not in color.
