1968 Cutlass S front parking/turn signal lamp removal

Hello,

I chased down my tail light fuse blowing to some chopped up wires at my front parking lights. The wires were cut too short for me to strip them and make new connections. So, I need to remove my passenger side lamp completely to access the socket wires so I can strip and attach to the pigtail.

I though it was going to be easy, but I can't figure it out. I assumed it would be a couple of bolts and voila! But I'm stumped.

The light assembly has two studs that go through the plastic headlight door and are retained with nuts on the backside. Yes, you need to remove the whole headlight door to access the nuts.

Thank you. I seen those studs and wonder how the hell am I supposed to get them. I started to remove the headlight bezel as shown in the second pic, but stopped short because it looked like I might need to remove the bumper to pull it out.

Is that the case? Or once I remove the fasteners I can wiggle the whole assembly out with out having to deal with the bumper?

You might be ableto loosen the bumper and not remove it, maybe.

these old cars were put together layer by layer unlike todays cars, sometimes it can be surprising what has to come apart to fix. Or replace something

Thanks for the input, everyone. I indeed would have had to remove my bumper or at least loosen it. Luckily I was able to get a hold of a little nub of ground wire that was left and strip to make new connections without having to mess with the bumper. Where there is a will there is a way.

Side note: Once I corrected the parking light wiring (PO had ground wires fed into the power), a lot of the funky electrical issues went away. There are still a few others, but that is a different thread. I am so relived all the outside lights are functional and working now!

If you get into the front housings again, remove the front bumper bolts and very slightly loosen the rear bolts and tip the bumper down just enough for room to work.
