Question 1954 rocket 88 Brake light issue

My brake lights don't work. My tail lights work and so do the blinkers. I check all the fuses and they seem OK. Is the tail/brake light switch mounted on the very bottom of the steering column? If so, mine might not be connected (wires cut).

Any ideas or links to wiring diagrams? Thanks!

I don't know much about a 54, however the brake light switch is activated when you press on the brake pedal, it opens the current turns on the tailights. Let off the brake the circuit closes lights turn off, same application for later cars with cruise control-same principal. If the wires are cut you now know-have a shop manual with the wiring diagram? Find the other end of the cut wires under the dash some where? Just some thoughts.
