I have 1 connector coming out of my engine wiring harness that I have not figured out where it goes. I have looked through the diagram and still having a rough time. TIA
My guess is not factory. I say that because it looks like the brown wires are just jammed into the male connector. There's no female plastic piece the brown wires are attached to. But what year/model of car are you working on? If it is factory there should be something in the wiring schematic that reflects it.
Or am I seeing it backwards? Are either of the red wires connected or are they just in the background. Is it two brown wires in one male plug?
Sorry the red wires are behind the image of the connector. They are not attached to it is a 1970 Cutlass Supreme. 2 Brown wires in a female plug located before the alternator wires and oil and temp sensors..
Think I just figured it out. I have converted over to an internally regulated alternator, and this plug I believe went to the back of the old alternator. It has been many years since I have torn this down and didn't remember this. Does this sound correct?
That plug, as wired w/ two Brown wires, would not have attached to a 1970 internal VR ALT. The ALT would have been a Blue wire & a White wire in one plug attached to back of ALT.
I'm suspicious the two Brown wires emanate from the wiring harness then plug into another connector w/ one wire leading to the under hood lamp the other wire leading to the tail light feed from the main lamp switch.
Only one other location I can think of which I'll capture in a moment off the wiring diagram. But this is the one I'm suspicious you might be evaluating...

Of course, a wiring diagram doesn't provide the length of any wire & I can't say the length of the wire emanating from the Main Lamp Switch - yet, it's a possibility two wires emanate from one wire. Additionally, please note both the LH & the RH side markers have a two Brown wire feeds as you trace the Brown wire branch. I suspect you're looking at a lighting wire.
Gary - I believe you're correct regarding the feed wire itself. But, as I recall, the actual Brown wire which connects to the underhood lamp has only one wire to the lamp itself doesn't it? It's been awhile since I re-wired my underhood lamp. I may be mistaken.
I am pretty sure this harness is from a later model that has the internally regulated alternator harness. So I think I won't worry about it unless I need it. LOL I am sure I bought it here so I'll look back and see what I bought. Thanks for the help.
