Hirsh had a paint they called Oldsmobile Turquoise, or something to that effect. I'm not sure because I don't see it as an option on their website any longer- and that makes me even more suspicious. Some people said it looked more like Buick nailhead green than Oldsmobile green. From the pictures I see of the older Rocket V8's from the late 50's, Hirsch green is not the same color. Samples on Fusick's website look more like the green I see on 1950's era V8 with the gold valve covers, like this 303 image I grabbed off wicki...
Or this 324....
To me anyway, that doesn't look the same as this picture of the Bill Hirsch painted Olds 394, from this image which I also grabbed off the internet...
It's a small detail for me at this point, but in the event I decide to pull my engine out this winter, I'd like to know it's the correct color before I put it back in.
My question then is- which is right? Did Oldsmobile use the same green paint on the (non-red) 394's from 1959 through 1964, and is it closer to the green pictured in the first image, or should it be closer to the "turquoise" paint seen in the last image?
Were the later 394's (1963 and 1964, or at least, the 1964 engine) painted a different color, different from the 1959 and 1960?
If anyone has a picture, that would be even better. Thanks.
