1984 transmission oil change
Hi all. I'm going to change the transmission oil in my 1984 Delta 88 with the 307 engine. It has the 16 bolts on the pan and I have purchased a new filter gasket and O-ring and oil of course.
Does anyone have any tips for advice before I proceed?

Get the biggest drain pan you can, and a bag of speedi-dri.

total drain plus converter, just shy of 12qts, or close to 12.5L
BUT, without a total drain and just a pan drop, perhaps 4, why they say 'big' pan is to catch ALL the drip area.

The LARGE developing trays for prints that were used in chemical darkrooms make excellent drain pans for transmissions without drain plugs. Just loosen all bolts a bit. Then break the pan loose if it doesn't release itself. If you think that you may have to do the job again some day, you can add a drain plug. Just get a NPT bung and braze or weld it to the lowest part of the pan. Drill a hole in the pan and you are ready for a clean drain next time. Be sure to also drain the torque converter or you are only doing part of the job. Use the correct fluid.

No need with a new clean gasket.
I use one of those Under the Bed containers. Stupid big, but shallow. Clap the lid back on when you're pulling it out and you've no worries about slopping. Draining it into the empty bottles for recycling is a bit challenging, but a siphon tube gets the job done.

I checked the oil this morning and the level seems a bit high. What would be the best way to remove some fluid? I have one of those Little pumps that go into a drill and Maybe going through the dip stick?
