Hi everybody, thanks for letting me join this forum.
Dutchman living in France with a 1952 88 and an old car virus.
This 88 of mine had a Dutch title on a new Dutch chassis number, but now looking to import it in France.
Frenchies are heavy on regulations and wont accept the Dutch chassisnumber.
Now the problem: My car has no factory plate with the vin and I need the original one for the French title.
Can anyone help me out? Where can I find the original number without taking the body off (yes been digging on the web :-(
I think there is a plate on the door jamb - have you looked there? Not 100% if it's considered a VIN. I think some of this is going to depend on what France uses as a VIN for these old beasts. Most likely it's the plate on the door jamb I'd guess?
Review the following thread, also. I'll note there exists some discussion elsewhere on other forums some countries used the engine number? I guess as stated, it depends on what number France wants to use?
Thanks Norm, there's no plate on the door jamb, not under the hood, Looked everywhere (I think)
The French go by the book and only accept the original chassis nr. mine should be something like 528M3669
52 is year, 8 for the 8 cyl and C/L/W/M etc depending on production location. The number after the letter is the series nr.
This is what I found on the web it should be 8 or 9 positions...
regards
Robert
