Replacement Battery Tray for 1964 Dynamic 88

The battery tray for my 1964 Dynamic 88 is severely rusted. I hoped a tray from a '64 Impala would fit, but looking at the pictures I found online of this car (Harmon's Chevrolet Parts and CARS Inc.), it appears to be a different shape than the '64 Dynamic's battery tray. Does anyone know what make/model uses the same battery tray as my '64 Dynamic? Where can I get a replacement? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The 1963 and 1964 fullsize car battery trays were stamped into the fender splash aprons and only a Group 60K battery will fit in there correctly, without flopping and sliding around. To my knowledge they're not reproduced, but Fusick has the correct battery hold-down.

You need to find someone who can make/repair the sheetmetal apron or find a non-rusted piece (imagine a battery tray that ain't rusted! but they're out there with a little digging).

I'm guessing you may already have some type of tray bolted in over top of the factory battery well, so you can use a modern (read readily available) battery?

I haven't used them myself, but a Pontiac bud swears by Eastwood Company's battery mats to keep the metal trays from rusting.

The group 60 battery is no longer produced, and the cross-reference is a group 27. I recently purchased a group 27, but it does not fit correctly.

The battery tray actually bolts into the radiator support, LF inner fender, and grill support. 10 bolts holds it in place. I'm going to do some digging to find a replacement. Otherwise if I cannot find a suitable replacement, I'll clean up my old unit and either try to rebuild it with sheet metal or reinforce it with fiberglass and paint everything with POR-15.

I've used the Eastwood Battery Mat in all of my vehicles with great success. My '71 VW' has had one since 1994. I cleaned that that battery tray (which is actually part of the floorpan under the rear seat) with baking soda, wire-wheeled it to cleanup the metal, painted it with POR-15 and installed a battery mat. I've not had any further corrosion in its battery area, and its been nearly 14 years of summer-only use! I'll use on in my '64 Olds once I get a replacement or repaired battery tray!

I think you should check out Fusicks and Kanter. One of those places might have a replacement battery tray. It seems like I have seen them before.

I've used these in my Starfires for years, complete with NOS Delco Eyes for period looks. Not cheap, but even though a 27 is close it still won't stay put so it's worth it to me. I can usually get 4-5 years out of one using a Battery Tender.

I'm told a newer Honda battery is almost a drop-in though I wouldn't use it on general principle.

OK, I can confirm that the '64 Impala battery tray is 100% different than the Jetstar/Super/Dynamic 88 battery tray, as I inspected a reproduction unit at C.A.R.S. today. Also, Chevrolet installed their battery on the right side of car, behind the radiator support. Next ideas are to (a) try to find a nice used one in a west coast junkyard or (b) try to rebuild mine with sheet metal. If anyone has a good used battery tray for sale, please let me know.
