Passenger Door Will Not Open From Outside

Guys I'm guessing the clip or latch inside broke or became undone. Is this a job I can tackle with basic tools?

You don't say what the car is but they are all about the same when it comes to inside door handles and window cranks. Go to the parts store and buy one of those tools for removing door handles and window cranks if you don't have one. There is not much to them but you will never get the handles off without one. You might also want to get one of those plastic tools to pull the trim pad off. After that it is just basic tools. Good luck.

Year and model would help us provide you with useful info. The configuration of the handle and latch vary from year-to-year, as does the process for fixing this.

The tool is easiest, but a couple quick and free tricks...

- use a large paperclip - look for youtube videos detailing how to bend the clip. This worked for me until I bought the proper tool, which is cheap anyhow

- use a small cloth, drag it up beside the shaft behind the crank until it catches the retaining clip. Very easy to do, just learned that one and employed it on my kid's Toyota which uses similar clip keepers.

Would have been helpful to know that up front...

These cars use a short linkage rod from the handle to the latch mechanism inside the door. It has probably come off, likely due to the retaining clip breaking or rusting off.
