Parts interchange

I'm looking at a 65 olds dynamic 88 sedan. I'm about 99% sure I'm getting it. I'm wondering if any parts from a 65 impala sedan will interchange with the 88? They look pretty close to me. Specifically the rear seat and the rear bumper. I don't like the second set of tail lights in the 88's bumper, was wanting to do the impala bumper. I couldn't find a search section, so please don't flame me if this has been asked/covered before. Thanks in advance for any help with this topic.

As Glenn correctly points out, while both cars are B-body cars, glass and a handful of interior parts are all that interchange. The Imp uses an X-frame, the Olds a full perimeter frame. Suspension, steering, brakes, axles are completely different. Body panels are completely different (items like trunk pan can be made to work). If the Olds is rusty, there are no patch panels available.

Widespread B body mechanical parts interchange did not happen until the '71 model year. Before that, as learned, even the "hidden" parts - meaning frame, suspension, ball joints, rear end, driveshaft, etc. were all Divisional Specific. And then, after '70 all the Exterior metal remained Divisional specific, for the most part, very few metal parts that were removable interchanged. Suspect Roofs, firewall / cowls, Rockers, and floors after '70 did interchange, however. Glass and Door Guts might be one of the few items, before '71 that DID interchange to some degree.

I dunno where to post this, but this seems as good a place as any. I've got Impala floor pans for my 64 Dynamic and it looks like the rust is more into the support brackets underneath than the actual floor pans themselves. I just got the left side floor pan today, and I just started on the process. It's pretty clear they are not a perfect fit, but I don't need complete floor pan replacement. I need pieces. It's October- good a time as any....

That's the sun shining through my floor after I ripped out the rotted carpets. I think there's some work to be done.

Joe, I coulda sworn Chevy full size went to a perimeter frame in '65 also.

You are correct, however it is still completely different from the Olds frame. Note that the rear suspension is a three link with panhard rod, for example.

The front suspension uses a narrow lower control arm with a strut rod, similar to Ford suspensions.
