New muffler???

Looking to upgrade my muffler and get a little sound out of my Delta 88, I am still keeping the stock single exhaust system, Looking for something with a nice throaty sound but not annoying on highway cruising.

Ive seen most people have used a Flowmaster 40 series cant anybody comment on this selection?

I am running flowmaster super 40's on my Cutlass Supreme 455. My setup is Dual exhaust with 2.5 inches all the way from the manifold out the back.

What size engine does your delta have? Is your engine pretty much stock or do you have a lot of performance upgrades? all of these questions will affect the volume of the sound. The only way to truly know would be to install it and hear it yourself. Its really hard to figure out without hearing it on your specific car in person.

I think the Flowmaster 40 would give you what your asking for on that 307. I know their are some guys here with Delta's, hopefully they'll chime in soon and correct me if I'm wrong.

Until you decied to do a full exhaust, duals, either "H" or "X" pipe don't spend the money of a Flowmaster.

I bought a Summit Racing brand "Turbo Muffler" 2 1/4 in and out, offset, offset and it went right in real easy. I only paid $18 for it, but that was back in 2006. You could also do a glasspak.

Yes the 307 is a 90* V8 so you'll get the sound, but throaty will be better with headers and a full exhaust

I've actually heard the summit turbos on a couple b bodys and they sounded really good, but was scared of the quality of a 18 dollar muffler so it scared me away from them.

if you just replacing a stock muffler, this is the best bet. If you go duals, your going to want to go 2.5 tubing for exhasut anyway

Walker Dynomax for better flow and no resonance. Here's what they sound like on my 350. Also, much less $$ than the over hyped/overpriced Flowmasters.

so you have the dynomax VT's and they really do not drone or resonate at all?

Dynomax Super turbos...no resonance or drone whatsoever, just the true muscle car sound from the 1960s... the video tells the story.

I know a heck of a lot more people have flowmaster over magnaflows. I also know that Flowmaster was just bought by "B &M and Hurst Shifters"

From what I hear Flowmaster is better.

I think 71cutlass has a good opinion though. Maybe you should try out those Dynomax ones that have no resonance.

I wouldn't mind trying the dynomax turbo muffler but the shop would have to order it I can't really find them locally.

Most places I talked to carry flowmaster and magnaflow.

I would definitly say get something like the 40 series which is a two chamber muffler which will give you that muscle car sound.

You could try the 50 series SUV flowmaster maybe? that one is a three chamber I believe that will give you some performance but its not considered "aggressive" sounding. That one on your engine will definitly sound better than the stock exhaust but it wont be much louder I dont think.

I just redid my exhaust with the 40 series and I like it a lot. My car is a convertible and I can definitly hear that 455 growl!

My final question to you is: do you want your Delta to be more or less stock? or more muscle?

if you want muscle sound go for the 40 series
if you want more stock/performance sound go for the 50 series

71 Cutlass, do you know what muffler part number(s) you used in your installation? Was it a direct fit?

So I did actually get a flowmaster 40 put on today total installed was $125 even fixed a exhaust leak and took my resanator off for free.

It is still a little to quite for my taste is there anything else I can do for a bit more sound? They wouldn't touch my cat

Cut the tail pipe off and either dump right after the muffler or do a 90* bend and come out right before the rear tire

Once again guys I'm keeping a stock single exhaust setup I'm not going to invest the money in a dual setup when I'm keeping the 307 motor it just doesn't make sense money wise

But it would give you the sound you want.

When I do my exhaust I'm looking to do exactly what I told you. I'm going to have the exhaust exit right before the rear tire. My buddy did flowmasters to a turndown right after the mufflers. I found out that's illegal here in Pennsylvania but if the exhasut exits the body, it's legal

I understand that you want to stick with single exhaust for now. The reason I was asking the diameter of the pipe was that I was curious if you could run a bigger pipe from the exhaust manifold. that should only set you back 75 bucks or so and it should increase the sound of the flowmaster.

if you are only wanting to swap out the muffler and keep the same pipe than you could try Flowmaster 10 series. I think its a one chamber. I personally dont know anyone who uses that muffler though.

I agree, it will give you the sound you're trying to achieve. Duals is the best way to go, not only for sound but for improved flow for the engine. If it's an original and you're set on it staying original we all understand, lots of folks like to keep their car all original, but if you decide to go with dual exhaust, I think you will really enjoy the benefits from it.

i got the thrust "clasic sound of thrust serie's"

I believe stock replacments, but i'm happy with them in stead off buying a louder turbomufler.
Also run 2.5 inch pipe's without H ot I pipe. in stainless.

But they are not that quiet as i hoped, if driving a converteble.
As only a bit louder than stock, i go for stock next time.
It is nice to talk without raising voice, or constanly tune the radio volume.

What type of set up do you have? I have an 82' delta 88 with a 307 v8 and from your video it sounded sweet. How does it sound at idle?

wow nice set up. i plan on keeping my 307 for a while since it has about 47k miles on it so this is a great way to compare and begin modding my engine.
