Need a replacement spring
Need a replacement spring
OK, so after having my 56 on jack stands for 12 years, ya know something has got to be missing when you put it back together. The only thing I have misplaced is the oval spring that fits on the flat link between the primary and seconday shoes on the rear brakes. Its only purpose is to keep the link from from making noise. I have tried Auto Zone etc, etc, on the chance that the spring was also used in later models, a junkyard that specalized in parts but they don't have time to get one spring; Funsick doesn't carry it. Any help appricated Chuck:
Did you try Kanter?

Spring
Thanks for the link, I had not checked with Kantor, but do not see anything in their catalog other than kits. I will call them tomorrow on the chance they can help. Thanks again, Chuck
All I saw in the Kanter catalog was the kits. USA Parts does list a drum spring hardware kit for $18 per axle. I would expect that anti-rattle spring to be part of a rear kit, but what do I know?

Still no spring
I checked USA and their kit does't appear to have the a-rattle spring. I was on the phone for about 5 minutes waiting for them to check after I described the spring as being about 1 inch long, oval and made of thin wire. The guy came back and said he didn't see anything like that in the kit, but there were a lot so springs in there for 17.95 Hmmm. Anyway thanks for the input, I really hope someone out there has an old parts can with some left over parts they would be willing to part with Thanks again, Chuck
If you could find one from a parts car that would be great. I guess the other things you could do is try a salvage yard and see if you could find one from another car the matches up close enough or go to an auto parts store ans see if the counter guy would go through the kits on the shelf and try to match it.
I wonder if you would have gotten a better response if you posted in the vintage section?
