Need help with gear shift indicator
Hello all. I'm new here to ClassicOldsmobile and a novice Oldsmobile owner.
I have a 1978 Delta 88 Royale, automatic transmission.
I was cleaning up the dash trim and somehow moved the bowl or collar that is supposed to move when the gear shift is moved. Well, it seems that I must have moved the two things out of sync. The indicator is at "P" no matter which gear is selected. I know that it moves via a thin cable attached to the bowl. From what I can see, the cable is still attached to the bowl and I can move the cable by turning the bowl. I just can not get the bowl to stay where it is supposed to stay. I have tried putting the car in drive and moving the bowl so that the needle is lined up with the "D" and also all of the other gears as well, but it does not seem to want to stay in position.
I would really like to fix this if it does not require dis-assembly of the dashboard, if possible.
Thank-you in advance for any help.
