my 66 dynamic 88 ragtop

here is a picture of my 66 dynamic 88 ragtop. ive owned it since 86' it has a modified 425..bored 30 over with dual exahust, mild crane cam, edelbrock performer manifold and carb. the trim was shaved and mother nature lowered the front end (worn springs). i love this car...and i could fit a mustang in my trunk!

for the record its not a blower...just a hilborn scoop. this is what happens when you watch to much monster garage. i have the original hood in the garage and it depends on my mood whether i have it on or not. i like the curious looks the hilborn gets me.

NICE!!!!!! That body looks so much better without the wide aluminum trim that my Delta 88 has! Keep the bug catcher, BTW. Hell - throw on some side pipes and a chrome foot gas pedal. I would!

AWSOME! I like the Hilborn scoop too.

Those wheels look like Cragar SuperSports. Am I right? My buddy had some on his Ford Galaxy and Chevy Camaro when I was in school.

yea the wheels are the good old crager ss. those wheels look good on all 50's-70's cars. and they last forever..a little polish once and awhile and they look like new. i put them on in the late 80's. that was actually the first modification i did too it. the top was shredded and the motor was sucking oil and blowing out blue smoke...but i had to have those wheels first! ive got 60's in the rear and 60's in the front..probably could have put 50's in the rear with the 60's up front. i also have a set of poli-air bags in the rear for a little boost (had them for 15 years without a problem) and mother nature has lowered the front end a few inches (worn springs) gives the car a nice stance.
i didnt like the look of the side trim, made the car look bigger. i thought the lack of trim gave it more of a muscle car look...so i "shaved" it and filled the holes. its getting time to re-do the body...a little body filler is popping out in a few spots and the paint is getting dull. im going to attempt that this winter. just freshen up the body work and then spray a new coat of paint. the car has always been a work in progress.

That is really nice, you must like it if you've owned it since '86. I have real trouble getting too attached to cars, after all the time you spend together and work you put into them it's hard to let go.
I like the scoop, looks foreboding, Cragars always look good, the wheel to have in the 60's, my all time favorite, Hurst are cool too. I could never afford them in the 70's but did have chrome reverse wheels and Thrush mufflers. 30 years ago we took the hood off and cruised around, why have chrome valve covers and air cleaner if nobody saw them?

Thanks for the Info on the wheels, but
I,ll be the first to admit i,m a Dumb *** , where wheel sizes are concearned , there are so many !!!!, lol

See if I can get this right
My 66 Dynamic 88 4 door , would have come standard with 14 inchers , yes ?
Bolt Pattern is 5 x 5 , yes ?
What width can I go without causing problems , rubbing on a turn etc .
So what other info do I need to know before I Order the wheels ?,

another question , Could I , or would it be silly to go to say 15,s on this Car

I fully admit i,m a bit lost , an could use some advice

Your best bet is to take the unit to your local tire shop, when you are ready to buy. They will (should) know or be able to measure back spacing bolt patern wheel clearances etc, as well as throw some styles and tires out for inspection. tires and styles have changed dramaticly since I was doing it but the basics are still the same. I don't think you can get the cragar ss anymore , but I have some classic styled wheels that look similar. I think better.

I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't know you could get the ss wheels any more. I havn't heard anything bad about jegs or done business with them...yet, but seem to have better prices than summit. It can't hurt to call them. They may have a specialist who can guide to the right stuff for your goals, and taste. I would drop a line and talk to them. I usually call an outfit a couple times b4 I buy anyway, but thats just a weird quirk I have. I like to feel like I know who I'm buying from.

depending on where your from im sure there is more than one tire shop to check out. crager ss are still available...im sure your local shop will have to order them for your car seeing that classic olds arent that popular these days. they have a standard rim that fits older gm bolt patterns with sort of a uni-lug pattern to allow for different models. that basically means instead of standard holes for the lughs they are sort of like ovals to allow for different spaced lugs. they us a larger lug nut with a locking washer to keep them in place. im sure the guys at jegs will walk you right through what to order. ive got
p225/70's on 15" rims in the front
p225/60's on 15's in the rear
my fronts are getting old and i'll probably replace them with 60s so i have 60s tires all around. (60's reffers to the widh of the tire..the lower the number the wider)
you could probably get away with 50's in the rear..but it might be close. 60's will work all around. tire brand is up to you, but you will find theres some "classic" tires kicking around at tire shops you can get a deal on. i got a pair of dunlops that are discontinued for a steal.
also dont forget if you buy wheels from jegs i dont think they offer to mount and balance them...so that brings you back to the local tire shop...keep that in mind...good luck
