Lowering my Super

Things are looking pretty nice on resurrecting my '63. Like to lower it a tad. Any suggestions? Just cut the springs? Running stock wheels at the moment.

It will ride like crap if you torch the springs, why don't you go to 50 or 60 series tires. You won't look slamed but you will pull it down a tad and your suspension will thank you....Tedd

I have a pair of rear CC501s here if they'll help. Should fit the full size 67' for theo

I have no idea what the lil 63' unibody cars used for springs though.

Don't torch them use a cut off wheel. Don't cut too much at once. I usually cut about 1/2 coil at a time put it together drive around the block and repeat if needed.

On the CC501 what would the drop height be?

I have the CC503 in the rear of my 67 Delmont (Moog recommended stock replacement) and if anything it rides above stock ride height. From the chart, it looks like the CC501 would lower the car at least 2" (compared to the 503). The spring rate is roughly the same, but the free height is 3-3/4" less.
Dunno if that helps you at all, but it's difficult to be absolutely certain what the exact ride height will be with any given spring going strictly by the specs.

This doesn't work on coils with double pigtail ends like a 67' Full size

I cut one full coil out of the front in my 61 and it lowered it 2". The ride did not change much at all. I would try that before buying springs and do not use a torch use a cut off wheel. I did not need to cut the back because the old springs sagged just enough to allow the stance I wanted. You can't cut the back ones because of the taper in them. If you don't like it after your done your done you can always buy new ones and if you do your not out any money.
