I noticed some noise coming from my gauges. My speedometer gauge bounces a little bit, and I was told that the gears on it needed to be greased.
Does anyone know how to remove it?. Also do i use oil, or grease?.

I am afraid of the speedometer going out completely if I dont fix it soon.

 

It's more likely the cable is frayed, if that is the case you need a new cable - too late for lubing.
You may be able to remove the cable from the speedometer without taking the cluster out if you have skinny arms and are a good contortionist. If not taking the cluster off is straightforward but fiddly, you will need torx (star?) keys to take some of the dash off and don't forget to disconnect the cable from the transmission selector like I did on my Cutlass!.

when you say I have to take off some of the dash, do you mean the dashpad/dashboard, or the instrument panel?.

If memory serves me correctly (and that is highly questionable nowadays!) I believe you use graphite on the speedo cable. Isn't there a unscrewable hookup on the transmission that could be undone, and the graphite "puffed" in there; it should work its way "up" the cable to the speedo head on the dash. You can get the tubes of graphite at an auto parts store. Good Luck!

Grease won't make into the speedo head via the cable, you only need to take out the instrument panel to get to the cable.
The only gears you will find on the speedo are for the odometer, to get to them you will have to take the speedometer out and partially dismantle it.
No rocket science involved but be careful & patient.

 

You should be able to pull the cable out of the casing once the speedo unit is out.
Use WD40 to dissolve the old grease and regrease with new lithium grease.

If the cable is damaged or kinked, it needs replacing.

 

i lubricate the speedocabel with oil.

but the 69' manual say to use speedometercabelgrees on the lower two third's of the cabel.

check the speedometercabel first, that the first step, than carefull trie to turn the backweel(female) with a piece of speedocabel before you dismantel it.

becouse it is mostly the cabel, if not it could be the odometer and/or the other connection, or worn cabeltips.
