Welcome. Hijacking a thread in the Cutlass subform to ask a Delta 88 question probably isn't the best way to get a timely answer, so I've moved your post to a dedicated thread under the Eighty Eight subforum. Good luck.

I am not that familiar with '64 VIN's but I think it should start with 3 = Oldsmobile or else 64 for the year.

go to wildaboutcars.com
sign up for free
access the 1964 chassis service manual
in the first few pages is the VIN deciphering

Neither. It starts with "8" for the number of cylinders (yes, really)

The first "4" is 1964

The second "4" is the model

"K" is the Kansas City assy plant

The final six are the sequential serial number

The more common 13-character VIN that starts with "3" for Oldsmobile wasn't used until the 1965 model year.

It's not that you stepped on any toes, it's just that you posted a Delta 88 question in a Cutlass sub-forum. You stand a better chance of getting a good answer sooner when you post questions in the appropriate sub-forum. It's both for your benefit and for the benefit of folks who might be searching for similar info later.
