55 Hardtop engine mount Questions

Hi All.

Im in the process of doing my chassis of resto on my coupe, and i decided to get a drvicetrain, as i am in Australia olds motors are not found at all so i had to go for a chev.

So.. I am wondering about engine mounts for my 55 coupe, i have recently bought a 327 powerglide combo and i was wonderng about the engnine mounts and crossmember for the gearbox?

Do i have to change the mounts and or can i alter the ones i have to fit the new motor gearbox combo??

Any help would be great.

Understand your predicament. Usually whenever you change an engine/transmission combo you try to keep the motor mounts that match the engine and end up modifying the perch locations on the frames. I am not familiar with where the engine mounts are located on the chevy engine but your best bet would be to lower the whole engine/transmission into position and start by eyeballing what you will need to modify. Either by building perch mounts or possibly removing/modifying parts of the frame to make it fit. This is what I had to do when transplanting a 455 into my '46. Good luck.

Dan,

I know a guy who has/had a 371 recently, I say had as I dont know if he has sold it recently or not. I can get you his number if you like. it was a running motor as far as I know. Not sure on auto though. As for Olds stuff not available, I just sold some stuff at the Ballarat swap for an early olds the weekend just gone. Its around , you just have to dig a little. depends on where in Australia you are too.
