55 88 back up light assembly gasket?

Is there a gasket between the paint the and chrome trim on the back up lights? Can't find this part anywhere.

Thanks,

Joe

Joe, Fusick has a gasket listed for '56 olds backup light but it is probably for the lens. I believe the backup lights are very similar on '54-'56. For the mounting pads ,you may have to make a pattern and fabricate them out of gasket material or a rubber inner tube.

Yeah, gaskets available are for the glass lens.

I just picked up NOS assemblies, but they are for for the 58 Chevy Nomad. The molded rubber base is shaped to fit the ribbed shape of the bumper recess where these go on that car.

I'm not sure if they can shaved flat, but I may give it a try.

Glad I'm building a custom. The lack of and cost of reproduction parts would make this car so difficult to properly restore.

Thanks!

Joe

I am not sure about the 56 but the 54 & 55 backup lights were the same as the 58 Nomad.

That's what I got. It's a complete NOS 58 Nomad setup (even has the wires, switch for column, instruction sheet to install.).

The molded rubber base is shaped on the with ribs to match the shape of the Nomad bumper license plate area where it is installed on that car.

Need a flat base/gasket......

The 1955 Olds chassis parts book shows two different gaskets under group 2.697

MOUNTING PARTS, BACK-UP LAMP 1954 & 1955 ALL; GASKET; part number 564696

GASKET, BACK-UP LAMP LENS; 1952-98; 1953 THRU 1955 ALL; part number 5942812. This same number is shown in the Chevy book as being for the 1958 station wagon (2-15/16 O.D. x 2-7/16 I.D.).

The first number (564696) does not appear under group 2.697 in the Chevy book.

Thanks!

I don't have gaskets on my 54 and the backup lights were NOS. It should be pretty easy to make a set with some gasket material and a good hobby knife.

Yep, it looks like I'll be modifying these 58 bases or making some from flat rubber.

I have used strip caulk seam sealer and then removed excess after installing for these type of gaskets.

M371961, That's good thinking too! I may be overthinking this.

I'm building a custom that will get nice weather duty here in AZ. Probably won't have a water issue.....

I may just carefully mount them to painted surface and move on.
