newolds5188, Yes it can be done.I have pictures of the air conditioner ,that I installed on my 1955 Olds(go to Rocketowner and look at Albums). Got the unit, compressor ,condenser ,and drier and a universal mounting plate(Chrysler) From Southern Air out of Florida.Made my brackets to line up with existing generator pulley, and used a 63" belt to pull generator, water pump, and air conditioner. 5 years after installation ,no problems, even with stock radiator never heats up past half way mark, and it cools the whole car without using the high speed on fan!

Vintage Air is probably the most popular aftermarket AC. The reproduce the Mark IV underdash unit which is what I am going to put in my 54. You will probably need to convert to 12 volts since I believe all these systems are 12 volts. If you don't have power steering (was it even available) you will need to find double pulleys from a 54-56 so you will be able to run the compressor. I am assuming they will fit the 51. I may have a set later since I will be replacing the double pulleys with triple pulleys since I have power steering.
