1978 Delta 88 a/c compressor wiring

Hello all - So I go to change the a/c compressor on my '78 88 and there is a brown wire that feeds into the back of the compressor. This wire comes off of one of the two wires on the front of the compressor that are used to operate the a/c clutch. What is the purpose of the brown wire that goes into the back of the a/c compressor? TIA

If it goes to a round switch/plug in the back of the compressor it is the high pressure cutout switch. The switch opens interrupting the ground circuit to the compressor clutch coil shutting off the compressor if the pressure gets too high.
