Hi - I'm about to be the proud new owner of a 1975 Delta 88 Convertible, which needs new tires. Could any of you experts recommend the best place to get them? And the size? I'm considering white walls as well, so a place that sells them. And last question for now - were white walls a standard option in 1975? Did folks ever put them on the car at that time?
I'm a total newby to old cars so thanks in advance for all the help. - Mark
I bought General Grabber HTS 235/75R15s for my 71 98. I know my car was originally equipped with J78s, the Delta 88 probably had a smaller tire though.
Usually when I buy tires I try to buy them from Sam's Club since I'm a member. They can easily beat the price on most tire shops in town. I had to order the General Grabbers though. I found that all of the tires in the size I needed were knobby SUV tires.
If you want white walls those are going to be more difficult to find. I know my General Grabbers are white letter on the inside. Here's a supplier of wide white walls if that's what your looking for. Know that maintaining white wall tires is quite a task. Plus you'll pay more up front.
Whitewall tires were pretty much the order of the day for these cars at that time. I had a '75 Delta 88 convertible back in the 1990s, and I wouldn't think of putting anything but whitewalls on it. Whitewalls most certainly were an option on these cars if they weren't standard equipment.
Here's a photo of my car. Not only did I put whitewalls on it, but they're wider stripe whitewalls than was typical back in the day.
As I recall, the proper tire size for these was 225/75R15. Whitewalls of this size are available at tirerack.com, and they're most certainly available in one brand or another at your local tire shop, although they may have to order them.
Here's one page out of the '75 Olds brochure, and it's the only page that shows the D-88 convertible. Every image shown anywhere in the brochure has these cars with whitewall tires.

Nice car, but you can see the problem with blackwalls on a car like this. It's like getting dressed in a tuxedo and then putting on a pair of ratty sneakers for footwear.
Welcome aboard from another 75 Delta 88 Royale Convertible owner. This is my 2nd year with the car and you're going to have fun with it believe me. Mine just came out of winter storage and on the ride home it just rolled over 50,000 miles. I had white walls on it with the spoke hubcaps but I changed to SS IV's last September and it makes the car look great. Good Luck Matt

I ordered these from there. 225/75/15 with an inch and a half whitewall a half inch off the rim. They are Pirelli tires and the whitewall side is smoothed off with no lettering whatsoever.
