When I had a new top, which included the well liner and a glass rear window with defogger, installed on my '75 Delta 88 convertible back in 1994, I paid $700. That included the top and all materials as well as the labor for installation.

Yes, that was 21 years ago now, but a tripling of the price in that time frame does seem a bit high. Have you shopped around? When you say "do it all," what exactly does that mean? And who exactly told you this? A friend? Or is this a quote from a convertible top shop?

local shop that has been around for 40 years, old guy that has been doing them for ages and said he is very familiar with the scissors tops we enjoy.
He said that price would include everything, well liner to padding, to the tension wires or what ever those are.
Yea you thing was 21 years ago, I think it is safe to say prices have went up. Up to 2k, we shall see. This shop does tops to seats and everything in between. Honestly I'd rather pay for a seasoned veteran then some dude that has never done like this car and just more modern cars.

In 94 a Z28 Conv was mid 20's, same equivalent Camaro today is 45 easy! Prices do go UP sadly.

I paid $800 in 1990 and $1200 in 1996 on a 73 88. After two maroon colored tops I went back to factory white as the black and white seem to hold up a little better. I never could get a glass rear window to stay in worth a damn. The top fabric would always pull away from the bottom of the rear glass. The 1996 top had a plastic rear window.

2K sounds expensive but it's probably about right for 2015- especially if you have someone who understands the scissor top and is not afraid of it. My advice- get the heaviest-weight top you can find and make sure he checks the rain gutter- which is only a piece of top fabric looped between the rear trimstick and the pinchweld, but if it gets a tear or the drain stems come off, you're going to have a wet trunk.

It's telling that all you saw driving Z28s and TransAMs around here in the 90s were middle aged women. They were all that could afford them. GM hasn't had sense enough to price their cars within reach of their target market in over 30 years, and that's only one of the many reasons I will never again own a modern GM car.

Thanks for the info. My rain gutter after all these years must still be working. No wet trunk.
